Dragon Ball Z: Come Join Us! The World of Goku

(Cover art taken from Kami Sama Explorer.)

"Atsumare! Goku World" is a special animation made for a Japanese interactive toy called the Televikko. As far as I can tell from the special, a little symbol pops up on screen and you (the small Japanese child) pick up your televikko phone and speak to the character on screen. The character gives you a multiple choice question, and you press the button on your televikko that corresponds to the correct answer. Since it's a VHS tape, I'm not sure what happens when you're wrong. It seems like a strange precursor to DVD games.

Review: The Cell Saga (DBZ Episodes 140 - 194)

At last, the perfect review for this perfect saga. But is it as perfect as our titular villain claims? Or could it use a lot more work?

Dragon Ball Z ep 194 - One More Conclusion!! I Will Defend the Future

Although the present era is safe and peaceful, Trunks' era is still being terrorized by the Artificial Humans #17 and #18. Though weaker than their present era counterparts, they have none of the conscience of those cyborgs, and go on killing and destroying simply for the fun of it. It was they that killed Son Gohan (for some reason his super awesome hidden power never showed itself in that timeline? Well okay then.), Trunks' friend and teacher, and the rest of the Z-Senshi of the future.

Dragon Ball Z ep 193 - New Days... Father! I'm Hanging In There

There's one final wish remaining for Shen Long to grant. Yamcha toys with the idea of using the wish to get his new girlfriend an expensive necklace, but when no one responds to him, he laughs it off as a joke. It's Kuririn who speaks up, asking Shen Long if he can return #17 and #18 back to their original human state. Shen Long cannot, as their powers exceed his. Considering it, he then asks if Shen Long can remove the bombs from inside of them, and to this, Shen Long grants him his wish.
18 is surprised by this kindness as she watches, hidden away. Kuririn admits that her and 17 make a good couple, so he hopes they're happy.

Dragon Ball Z ep 192 - I'm Going to Train In the Next World!! A Smile at Parting

Gohan and his friends have finally beaten Cell. With Gohan, Trunks, and #18 in their arms, the B-Team Yamcha, Tenshinhan, and Kuririn make for the Heavenly Realm, where the Dragon Balls and Dende wait for them. Piccolo pauses, looking back at Vegeta, should he need any help. Vegeta immediately denies needing any such help, so with a smirk, Piccolo flies off.

But as soon as Piccolo leaves, Vegeta's drops all posturing.

Dragon Ball Z ep 191 - The Battle is Over... Thank You, Son Goku

The fate of Planet Earth, and indeed the universe, has come down to a final clash of Kamehameha. The crippled Son Gohan on one side, and the fiendishly powered up Super Perfect Cell on the other.

Dragon Ball Z ep 188 - Bye-Bye Everyone!! Goku's Last Instantaneous Movement

Semi-Perfect "Fish Lips" Cell has returned.

Having been tossed around so hard by Gohan that he spat up #18, Cell has reverted back to his last form.

Dragon Ball Z ep 187 - Something Amiss With Cell!! His Perfect Form Crumbles

This is it! The final match up for the whole universe comes down to Son Gohan vs Perfect Cell.

Dragon Ball Z ep 186 - Cell Gets KO'ed!!! Just 2 Super Ironfisted Blows

In fiction, you need plausibility. For example, it is plausible that if a force in the universe exists like ki, that martial artists could use it to fly around and shoot lasers at each other. I buy that. The King of the World is a dog man? I buy that too. Seven magic balls that summon a wish granting dragon that were created by a race of agendered slug men? Yup, makes sense. But what doesn't make sense to me is the screencap above.

Dragon Ball Z ep 185 - Devastating True Power!! The Cell Juniors Pulverized

Son Gohan has gone fully beyond Super Saiyan. He is Super Saiyan 2. Or Super Saiyan Grade 5. Or Sparkles the Death Dealer. Or Lightning McCracklepuss.

Dragon Ball Z ep 183 - Teeny Menaces!! Attack of the Cell Juniors

Cell is determined to see Gohan's so-called true strength. He beats Gohan down, attempting to get the young warrior to fly into a rage. But it's never Gohan's own safety that makes him explode with fury.

Goro Naya, November 17, 1929 – March 5, 2013

Goro Naya passed away of chronic respiratory failure on March 5th. He was an incredible talent (and a favorite of mine) mostly known for his work as Inspector Zenigata in the Lupin III franchise. But such as he was an industry titan that he left his mark on Dragon Ball, as well. His amazing voice was lent to the character Bongo in The Legend of Shen Long. We'll miss you deeply, Goro Naya-sensei.

Read more about him here...

Dragon Ball Z ep 182 - Become Enraged Gohan -- Call Forth Dormant Power

Goku has stepped down from his fight against Cell at the Cell Game, leaving the fate of the world in Gohan's hands. Although most everyone is skeptical, Goku remains assured.

Dragon Ball Z ep 181 - He Who Takes Over as Strongest... His Name is Son Gohan

Goku has surrendered. Cell can't believe it. If Goku has given up, then all of humanity will die by Cell's hand, as there will be no one left to defend the Earth. Piccolo, Trunks, and Vegeta are no match for him, surely. But Goku knows someone else who can still fight Cell. Someone who has surpassed him and will surpass Cell. The last hope for planet Earth and the universe...

Yamcha.
