Dragon Ball Kai ep 85 - A Broken Tranquility! The Defense Force's All-Out Attack on Cell

Episode sources
Story
"Twenty-seven bottles of beer on the wall, twenty-seven bottles of beer... Take one down, pass it around, twenty-six bottles of beer on the wall..."
"... Ugh."
"I'm going to go punch space rocks."

All the way at King Castle, Dog King is addressing his subjects across all channels, urging them to remain calm as the military moves in to deal with the Cell situation. Traffic jams on the highways and empties cities across the globe are the norm, as people flee for their lives, hoping to hideaway in the wilderness from Cell's impending attack.

Indeed, the whole planet is full of panic. Except for the Son family.

Their training complete, Goku and Gohan spend the remaining days relaxing
fishing
chowing down
and having a nice family drive and picnic with Chichi and Kuririn.
Only momentarily is the tranquil nature interrupted by a fleet of military jets flying overhead.

After their picnic, they decide to visit Kame House,
and as they pass through a nearby city, they're the only car entering,
as everyone around them speeds out of town.

Across the world, the King Castle military moves on Cell, ready to make their assault.

Goku and the others listening in on the radio helplessly...
... as Cell lazily slaughters Earth's defenders.

Unwilling to do nothing, Goku uses Instantaneous Movement to visit Piccolo at Kami's Temple. He asks Piccolo if he and Kami can split at any time, so that they Dragon Balls can be returned. Piccolo says it's impossible, leaving Goku with one other option.

Find Planet Namek and recruit a new Kami-sama.
To do that, he'll need Kaio-sama's help.

Back at King Castle, the King once again addresses the people of Earth, this time to say that their military strike on Cell has utterly failed. But still, he urges, there is no use in panicking.

Instead, he says, they should pray for a miracle. That like when Piccolo Daimao attacked and all hope seemed lost, that Kami-sama would deliver them another savior. Another like that heroic young boy who saved the world, all those years ago.

What's cut?
All of DBZ 170 is cut, which features Gohan in his own classic DB filler episode.
It also features the return of Tao Pai Pai...
... who, upon learning whose son Gohan is, decides his job ain't worth it.
"Aloha~! But the other meaning this time!"
Also, DBZ 171 is axed.
Which means we don't get to see Gohan's birthday.
Or Goku naming him in a flash back.
Or all kinds of other cute stuff.
Finally, the picnic in DBZ 172 is a bit longer, and includes a flash back to DBZ 125.
