Dragon Ball Kai ep 84 - Training Complete! Goku Ready to Defeat Cell, and Then Some?!

Episode sources

Story

Earth has been driven into a frenzy since Cell announced his Cell Games tournament. With the word that all of humanity will be wiped out if Cell isn't defeated, droves of people are fleeing the cities of Earth to try and hide themselves in the wilderness. Kuririn watches in horror, blaming himself for not sacrificing #18 to the greater good. He wants to take on Cell himself, to put things right, but Muten Roshi forbids him to throw his life away with a fight he cannot win. Instead, he tells him to wait for the tournament. Maybe there, he can be of use.

At Kami's Temple, Piccolo and Vegeta discuss who will get which turns inside the Room of Spirit and Time as nine more days remain until the Cell Games. Piccolo has always reserved a day after Goku and Gohan return, but Vegeta wants the other eight days by himself (the dick). Piccolo tells him one can only spend two days/years within a lifetime in the room, or else they'll be locked in forever.

Suddenly, three hours early, Goku and Gohan emerge from the RoSaT.
And they hungry.
(I love that Gohan picked up on his dad's eating habits inside the room.)

"... Didn't you guys eat while you were inside?"
*Muffled talking*
"Don't talk with your mouth full!"
"And chew your food!!"

Goku explains how they did eat, but they're both lousy cooks, so not very well.
They should have taken Chichi in with them.

Meanwhile, at Capsule Corp., Bulma makes a shocking discovery.

#16's brain is full of nothing of reruns of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z.
(Same, buddy.)

Back at the Heavenly Realm, Goku gets back into his gi (freshly laundered by Mr. Popo) and Gohan asks Piccolo to make him a suit like his own (which Piccolo does, beaming with pride). While Trunks says they can get new armor from his mom, Goku politely declines. He wants to fight Cell as an Earthling.

Speaking of Cell, Goku uses Instantaneous Movement to zip down to Cell's arena and size him up in his Perfect form.

"What do you think? This is the Cell Games ring, where the fate of the world will be determined in nine days."
"Do you like it?"
"Kind of a cheesy ring for deciding fate in."
(Ice cold.)

Goku tells Cell that he'll be at the tournament for certain, and tells him not to kill anyone in the mean time. With that, he heads back to the Heavenly Realm where he makes two startling revelations: He doesn't think he can beat Cell, and he won't be taking another turn in the Room of Spirit and Time.

Instead, he and Gohan are going to take it easy, as training requires rest in order to work.

"Well, well... Even the great Kakarotto has been beaten by that room's extreme conditions."
"Maybe. But forcing our bodies to train anymore would just be agonizing. That ain't training. But I'm fine if you guys want to use it more. It looks like you could still afford some training."
"What's that?! I don't like what I just heard. It sounds like you're saying your strength is greater than mine, now."
"What do you think, bitch?"

So Goku and Gohan swing by Karin-sama's place to have the old Sennin look at his power and compare it to what he witnessed from when Cell was in action. Karin feels like Goku has reached some new world of power and yet, still thinks Cell is greater. Goku figured as much and, without his positive attitude changing, takes his leave. Karin wonders what Goku's strategy might be, since it isn't like Son Goku to just not care.

Finally, Goku and Gohan head to Kame House to pick up Chichi.
"My baby! What happened to your hair?!"
"It's dyed white and douchey now!!"
"I knew I shouldn't have let you listen to white rappers!!!"

Meanwhile...

"Two bottles of beer on the wall, two more bottles of beer. Take one down and pass it around, one more bottle of beer on the wall."
"One more bottle of beer on the wall, one more bottle of beer. Take it down and pass it around, no more bottles of beer on the wall."
"..."
"Ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall, ninety-nine bottles of beer... Take one down, pass it around, ninety-eight bottles of beer on the wall."

What's cut?
In DBZ 168, Newman from Seinfeld tries to escape from Cell.
Oolong comes up with a plan to launch them into space.
Cell doesn't make any friends.
A cool pencil/sketch flash back of Cell's journey is shown.
And Kame House senses Goku's return from the RoSaT.
