Goku is all fanboy over Paikuhan from the West Galaxy. He regales Kaio-sama with how Paikuhan easily took out Cell in two blows, but Kaio doesn't seem that impressed. After all, Kaio says as they approach a building on Grand Kaio's world, the Next World is full of many incredible guys!
Citizens of the Northern Galaxy, and Kaio's students, assemble.
Like Migoren, who fought bravely against fiendish aliens 700 years ago.
And Sate, who defended his planet from a meteor collision 3500 years ago.
And Olivue, from Earth, who lives on in ancient mythology and legend.
Among them are many other champions of merit from all across the Northern Galaxy, and here on Grand Kaio's world they have been training for thousands of years for a chance at training under Grand Kaio himself.
Goku is a little let down that he'll have to wait that long.
Just then - Kaio's of the East, West, and South arrive, gloating about North Kaio's death.
Kaio-sama is less than thrilled.
Goku is confused, so Olivue explains the cosmos to him:
On the bottom, you have the four galaxies, north, south, east, west.
Above them, Hell and Serpentine Road.
Above that, the four Kaios, who rule over the galaxies.
And further above still is Heaven and Grand Kaio's world.
To celebrate the first time the four Kaios have been together in 300 years, West Kaio suggests they hold an Anoyo-ichi Budokai! (Like a Tenka-ichi Budokai, but for dead people.)
And Grand Kaio thinks it's a groovy idea!
To sweeten the deal, he offers training to the winner.
And then he dances his happy ass across his house...
... all the way to a room filled with planets. This is where they'll hold the tournament.
Goku is excited! He'll definitely win that training!
But Kaio of the East doesn't think a noob like him should enter.
So she challenges him to a race! If she wins, he can't enter!
Without much room to bargain, Goku accepts.
And it turns out that East Kaio is actually quite fast!!!
But the winner of the race is... Grand Kaio-sama?!
And he lets Goku enter the tournament.
(Coolest Budokai ring.)
The rules of the Anoyo-ichi Budokai are simple: No falling out of the ring, crying, or giving up, or you lose. No blinding strikes or sensitive areas are permitted. You don't have to worry about killing your opponent, because they're already dead! With that, the fighting gets under way, with the first match being Olivue from the North Galaxy against Chapchai from the East Galaxy!
Grand Kaio rings the bell to begin the matches.
Chapchai is uncommonly fast!
... though, he actually just split himself into several.
And thus, Olivue wins the first match!
Paikuhan progresses as well!
But unfortunately, Angel Gorilla does not.
Finally, it's Goku's turn!
And he's facing off against the South Galaxy's Caterpi!
Caterpi grabs and locks Goku into place...
... and launches into a tickle attack.
(Olivue comments that the South Galaxy is a really peaceful place...)
But Goku is too strong to be held prisoner by Caterpi's many arms for long. After he breaks free, he remarks that Caterpi actually isn't that strong. Offended, Caterpi decides to prove Goku wrong.
By encasing himself in a cocoon.
And since Caterpi won't hatch for about 1,200 years...
Son Goku wins!
I guess not all the guys in the Next World are as impressive as Paikuhan...
