Dragon Ball Z ep 138 - Walking Weapons of Mass Destruction!! The Artificial Humans Draw Near Goku

Piccolo confronts Kami-sama atop the Heavenly Realm. Piccolo has decided that what the earth needs now isn't a Kami, but a reborn, fully whole Child of Katattsu... a Super Namek, if you will. But Kami isn't so sure about this. After all, the Artificial Humans still alive -- #16, #17, and #18 -- have done nothing especially wrong. When Piccolo shouts at him for being foolish, for not heeding Trunks' warnings, Kami reminds him that Trunks has been wrong about nearly everything about the Artificial Humans so far. And they, the Z Senshi, picked that fight... not the Artificial Humans.

So Kami opts to wait, and watch.

Elsewhere, Trunks, Kuririn, and Tenshinhan fly toward Goku's house to move him to a safer location. Ten splits up from them, heading back to Kame House to pick up Chaozu, and resume their training. He's not sure how much use he can be, but it's better than not trying.

Meanwhile, Vegeta is very angry.
(For those playing at home, take a shot.)

17 finally spots a car to steal -- a LUCKY FOODS delivery truck. It's drivers are shocked when 16 lifts up the truck and dumps out their entire inventory, and then casually slips into the back to take a seat. 17 and 18 hop in the front, and the three of them are on their merry way.

And then, a biker gang shows up.
A biker gang that rides motorized unicycles.
(You can't make this shit up.

Since they're punks, the 'cycle gang challenges the cyborgs to a little road rage. Challenge accepted.

(I probably spent more time on this joke than I needed.)

(Is that Dracula Man?)

But the punks split the scene when the police pull up. Noticing the stolen vehicle, the cops make to apprehend the Artificial Humans for questioning.

16 easily breaks his handcuffs.
Then 18 breaks their police car.

With that out of the way, our favorite band of lovable cyborg assassins get back in the pink delivery truck, and carry on heading toward Mt. Paozu. (Keep in mind that Vegeta has caused more death since they've been released. And the only person they've taken out is Dr. Gero. Maybe Piccolo should be merging with Kami to kick Vegeta's ass instead of the Artificial Humans?)

Elsewhere, Kuririn's wondering about whether or not the Artificial Humans might not be all bad. Trunks insists they are, but Kuririn can't shake his feeling...

(That's called an erection, Kuririn.)

Kuririn, Trunks, and Gohan all arrive at the Son House, and with Yamcha and Chichi, they pack up a sleeping Goku to move him to Muten Roshi's place for safe keeping. But it won't long be the Artificial Humans that they need be worried about...

Bulma is about to get a call...
... that will change everything.
(And end this strange, meandering Saga.)

  2. I hated this episode simply because it leads with the big guns and then LOL NOPE JK no fusion for you, just jinzos wandering around doing things, and Goku being unconscious. A real edge-of-your-seater~

    1. I blame the Japanese for feeling like they need weekly programming year round instead of seasons like American animated shows.

      Biba, how is it meandering?

    2. You should be thankful there's any action at all in this episode. There are literally episodes where they do nothing but charge ki, and stare at each other (which the Namek/Freeza Sagas are exceptionally notorious for).

    3. The Freeza Saga didn't feel nearly as stretched for time as this one does, to me at least.

    4. Well, at least in the Artificial Human Saga 5 minutes doesn't last for tens of episodes and doesn't have poorly-written filler segments contradict the story or characters to ridiculousness. :P

    5. I just don't see it. When I was watching the Freeza Saga last year, I was as hooked as I was when I watched it the first time. When I watched this Saga, I was more interested in what could be happening than what was actually happening. But those are my opinions, flawed though they might be.

    6. Coincidentally, that's the same way I feel about the Majin Boo Saga (not that I didn't enjoy it but it's the only one I can live without).

I still regard the Freeza Saga as where Dragon Ball hit it's high point either way despite how the original anime handles it though. I was just using it as an example since pretty much all the episode jokes people make about the series stem from it.

    7. tbh I can handle the YELL AND CHARGE episodes just fine even during Freeza, but when it leads with the reunion of the two best characters in the whole damn thing (imho of course) and then fillers itself to sleep, it's maddening.

  3. Well, I did enjoy this ep. I found the biker chase quite humorous even if the end of the segment was fairly predictable. And as usual the hook at the end had me ready to punch in the next episode. But as for DB/DBZ having a "high point" I don't see that myself. When you look at Goku's journey from beginning to end it is a story of meeting ever-stronger opponents and greater challenges. Those who are defeated fade quickly into obscurity as they have no usefulness in Goku's development. I love the scene in Hell when all of his past adversaries rise up in rebellion and are promptly dispatched with utter ease. To me every saga was exciting in this sense despite some of the drawn-out scene which fans mostly despise. Hey, it keeps the cell count down, meaning lower production costs and lets face it, more episodes = more sponsor money. They weren't making these to just entertain people.
