Tenshinhan whispers to Goku, as Piccolo walks away from our heroes.
"Yeah. Something like that."
Then Goku makes Ten promise not to tell the others.
No need to start a panic.
But before Kuririn, Yamcha, and Chaozu can inquire deeply into what just transpired with Goku and the mysterious turban wearing fighter, a distraction arrives in the form of a cute girl...
"Son Goku."
Yamcha and Kuririn can hardly believe it.
"Who're you?" Goku asks.
"YOU IDIOT!" The girl bellows, clearly hurt.
Deeply offended, she turns her nose up and walks away.
"Where did you find her?!" Kuririn presses.
"I don't know. I've never seen her before in my life..."
"Liar! That's not how she acted, you moron!"
"I'm telling the truth."
"Goku! You really did train at Kami-sama's place, right?!"
"I did."
"Dammit! She's such a cute chick, too! You're so lucky!"
"Dammit!!"
(Don't worry, Kuri. Good things come to those who wait.)
(Very good things.)
But enough distractions- the preliminary rounds are about to begin! Puar and Oolong, both transformed into birds, sit in on the preliminaries as Goku and friends draw numbers to see what block they'll be in. Tenshinhan and Chaozu once again use Chaozu's psychic powers to fix the results - putting all of them, and Piccolo, in different blocks, so that they won't face each other until the finals. Goku draws number 2, so he's the first to go...
And his opponent is none other than Chapa-o.
A man who had gone completely undefeated until Goku beat him in the preliminaries of the 22nd Tenka-ichi Budokai. Once a Tenka-ichi Champion himself, Chapa-o is pleased to see Son Goku will be his first opponent. Finally, after three years, a chance at redemption. He takes his stance and prepares to strike...!
But Goku takes no such stance.
He simply stands completely still.
Quietly like the sky.
And Chapa-o trembles.
Chapa-o launches at Goku furiously, but then Goku is gone!
Faster than lightning...!
Goku appears behind him, and in a single chop...
...Chapa-o is knocked cold.
Son Goku advances to the next round!
Piccolo watches our hero critically.
"Certainly, that was a far cry from his full strength. But with the way he moves, defeating me is an absolute impossibility. I'll tear him apart while everyone looks on! You can bet on it!"
The other fighters advance onward as well...
The mysterious girl.
Kuririn.
Yamcha.
Tenshinhan.
But Chaozu... is defeated?!
"I left him alive, but barely." A familiar voice says coldly.
"After all, killing him would disqualify me. It's been quite awhile, hasn't it... Tenshinhan. And Son Goku, was it?"
Tao Pai Pai has returned.
The man who killed Bora, Tsuru Sen'nin's younger brother, and a former superior to Tenshinhan and Chaozu at the Crane Style school, revived... After his battle with Goku, the grievously injured Tao Pai Pai used all of his earnings as the world's most notorious assassin to have himself rebuilt -- as a cyborg!! He has no intention of winning the Budokai, but only entered to have a chance to kill Goku -- and then, Tenshinhan, the traitor of his school. But Tenshinhan isn't afraid to fight back, and for Chaozu as well. Tao Pai Pai laughs!
"As pretentious as ever, I see!"
Things are getting dangerous at the 23rd Tenka-ichi Budokai!!!
